Research

You will be researching each of following examples of figurative language:
  • simile
  • metaphor
  • personification
  • onomatopoeia
  • alliteration
  • pun
You will also be looking at audience and purpose.

Keep track of the information you collect about each type of figurative language
on your figurative language organizer.

Guidelines for Designing Your Cards

  • You must design five cards.
  • Within the five cards, you must show an example of each of the six examples of figurative language (simile, metaphor, alliteration, personification, pun, and onomatopoeia).  Cards can contain more than one type of figurative language.
  • Each card must serve a different purpose and have a target audience.
  • Think about VOICE. Greeting cards can be serious or funny. Observe different greeting cards and notice how each one has a different voice.

The Big Pitch

Once you have created your cards, you need to prepare a presentation for the boss.  Your presentation needs to include a way to showcase your card designs as well as describe what kind of figurative language they are using, their purpose, and their audience.
